Heat and humidity
A closed truck sitting in a driveway on a July afternoon can climb well past the outdoor temperature. We keep the doors shut between loads, schedule water breaks for the crew, and load heat-sensitive items, such as candles, electronics, and houseplants, last so they spend the least time in the trailer.
If you have items that soften or spoil in heat, carrying them in your own air-conditioned car is usually the safer choice, and we will point those out during the walk-through.
Beach traffic and road timing
Route 1 and the roads leading to the shoreline beaches get heavy on summer weekends, particularly midday. An early start avoids most of that congestion and gets the heaviest loading done before the afternoon sun peaks.
Booking around the rush
Late May through August is the busiest stretch for movers across the whole shoreline, partly because school is out and partly because so many leases turn over by summer's end. Booking three to four weeks ahead gives you a far better choice of date than waiting until two weeks out.
If your move has some flexibility, a weekday morning slot in early summer is both easier to book and easier on the crew than a Saturday afternoon in August.
Keeping the house cool during packing
If packing happens over several days before the move, keep the air conditioning running rather than opening windows, especially in a house near the water where humidity adds to the heat. It keeps both the packers and your belongings more comfortable through the process.
Kids, pets, and a hot moving day
A summer move goes easier for everyone if kids and pets spend the day somewhere else, with a friend, family member, or sitter, rather than in a house with doors propped open and a crew moving heavy furniture through the halls. It is safer for them and lets the crew work at a steady pace.
If that is not possible, set aside a cool interior room away from the main traffic path where they can stay out of the way, with water and something to keep them occupied while the work goes on around them.
